When learning from your neighbours gets amazing!

You may know people who travel the world to discover how others think and behave differently. Some of us spend a fortune to go to the other end of the worldfor culture shock and fantastic learning experiences.

What if we could have the same experiences in our own backyard?

Hackney is one of the most richly diverse places in London: according to a survey in 2004, there was a recorded 100 languages spoken in the borough. With all the diversity brings a richness of experience and abilities. Being that there are so many different cultures and abilities in our own community, we want to find out what would happen if people from the same community were brought together to teach other useful skills for free!

That is why we created the Hackney Community Skill Sharing Day. On May 8th at the MK2 studios, we are organizing people in the community who have something they can teach to host workshops for others in the community who want to learn! Each workshop will run for 1-2 hours and will be sharing skills such as drumming, tango, origami, mending clothes, photography, belly dancing, tai chi, and more. Each workshop will be hosted by our neighbors and very person giving the workshop is offering to teach for free! Donations are accepted, but not required.

So, come join us for a day of learning from and with your neighbors! May 8, 2011 from 10am - 5pm at the Hackney Creative Space called MK2, 71-75 Powerscroft Road, E5 0PT.

Specific schedule of workshops can be found here

If you want to know more about the programme, check the event on Facebook!

If you want to contribute or know someone who can teach a skill, contact Lauren here.

Join us on May 8, 2011, to share knowledge and skills for free!

When and where?

What: Community Skill Share Day in Hackney

Who is behind the Hackney Community Skills Sharing Day?

Lauren has traveled 22 countries on 4 continents only to discover that even back home, we can learn so much from our own neighbors. While studying at university and in the very innovative program of the Kaos Pilot, she got frustrated that good education is easier to get with money! This is why she contacted Seeducation and came up with a simple, yet radical idea:

What would happen if people from the same community were brought together to teach other useful skills for free?

In a true Seeducation fashion, she quickly went from "Dream 2 Reality" and we are proud to announce that the first two pilots are launched very soon in the beautiful city of London. Lauren, thanks for all your amazing work!
