3 Stories on Building Relations - Podcast

Podcast

People give to people, and people do business with people. We know it, yet it is difficult to build relations quickly and effectively when we meet a lot of people from different background on regular basis.

How do you build a good enough relation to understand what people are interested in?

As a fundraiser, or in most other jobs, you need to convince the other person to that you have something that will enhance their life. To do this, you need to listen to the other person and respond to their needs.

Luke FitzHerbert, one of the creators of the Directory of Social Change, tells us about the donors pyramid. At the bottom of the pyramid, you have the general public. They don't know about your charity or organisation, and you need to interest them. Then ask for little help and/or contributions, and build it slowly as you get to know them.

It is like when meeting a new neighbor: you do not go ask for money for your charity straight away. First you ask about them, what they do, what interest them. You build rapport and get to know each other before you ask them to organise a tea party for your charity.

Listen to this podcast to hear 3 stories about how to build relations at a personal level, in society and through social media.
